Scaffolding Software would like to bring attention to promoting safety in the workplace for all workers in construction and maintenance. If safety is talked about, it will remain in the forefront of everyone’s minds.
This huge Scaffold collapse in Prahran Australia on February 23, 2012 injured three people, crushed six cars and caused traffic chaos when it collapsed into Commercial Rd.
The court heard the collapse had been caused by an overloading of bricks on scaffold bays and alterations made to the scaffold structure’s original design.
The width of some platforms from five to three boards and the removal of wall ties meant it no longer complied with Australian standards. Scaffolding bays were found loaded with brick stacks weighing up to three times the safe limit. It was reported that the wind then took hold of the shade cloth triggering the collapse.
It was fortunate that many of the workers were taking a break and not on the scaffold at that time.
Scaffolding Software says “Safety first”.
